Response- he really wants to see Jane again, and i think it makes him happy to think of her because they were good friends when his life was good. he really just needs someone with will talk to him and listen to him and carry on a good conversation.

Chapter 10
He washed his shirt in the sink and changed he went down to the lavender room, there was a band playing. he really wanted to call phoeby but he couldn't because if his mom answered and he hung up she would know it was him. he also talked about how great she was and how she usually wrote books about the same things and she never completely finished them. she was smart and pretty and she could listen to general conversations and understand them. so he finally got down to the lavender room and tried to order a drink but the waiter wanted to see his ID finally he just ordered a coke. he met 3 girls and only thought that one was pretty and they danced and she basically ignored him but he liked her because she was a good dancer. he ended up taking them all out to dance and he found out that the 2 brunettes were sisters and they all worked together at an insurance building. the bar was closing so he bought them each 2 drinks. he didn't really like them because they were horrible conversation holders. they all got up at the same time and said that they had to go because they were getting up early to go to see the first showing at the radio music hall.
he left because the band quit long ago and it was closing, he bought cigarettes and the bill was $13.00 and he said how he didn't have a great time because you have to either be drunk or have a good girl who can knock you out dancing, or its just a bad time.
Response- Holden just seems to have no hope, he thought he might have a good time when he started to dance with the blond but she wouldn't talk to him or even listen, although she was a good dancer which he like, he still didn't have a blast. he just wants someone who will sit down with him and talk, like a really good conversation.

Chapter 9
he wanted to call someone he knew so he went to a phone booth he wanted to call his sister phoeby but he knew she would be asleep and his parents would probably answer and if he hung up she would know it was him (his mom). then he wanted to call this girl he used to go with, sally Hayes because he knew she was home for break because she wrote him a letter and asked if he would come visit her. and then he wanted to call Jane's mom and see if he could get her number but he ended up not calling anyone. he called for a cab and told him his old address and then he realized he was going to stay in a hotel so he made him turn around but they where in a one way street so they had to wait, he asked the driver if he knew where the ducks went to when it got cold? the driver didn't know and then he asked the driver if he wanted to go get cocktails but he said he couldn't do that, he got checked in but before he did he took off his hat. he got to his room and looks out the window and he can only see the other side o the hotel and he says it is a bad view but he is depressed and doesn't care, he sis a man dressing in women's clothes and in the room below a man an women spitting what seemed to be water at each other, he said if Stradlater was here he would be king of the hotel because it is full of perverts. finally he pulls out a card from his wallet it was of this girl named Faith and he had got it from a guy he went to school with at some party. he called her and he said he was feeling "Happy" so he wanted some, she was freaking out because it was late at night and he was calling and she didn't know who he was, he asked her to go somewhere for cocktails but she said no and said tomorrow and he said no. he said he really messed that one up and that it was too bad.
Response- I think that he is really alone and he really wants someone to talk to even though it is really late at night. he just wants to know that he matters and that there is someone out there who will listen.

Chapter 8
he walked to the train station because it was too late to call a cab to come get him, he said it wasn't a bad walk because he had the hat, which had ear flaps to keep his ears warm. when he got the the station he only had to wait for 10 minutes, while he did he wiped blood off with snow. he got on the train which was basically empty and this lady got on and sat by him and put her bad in the middle of the isle. they started talking and she saw that he went to pencey and asked Holden if he knew her son and he told her that his name was Rudolf which was the janitor, he told her a ton of stuff about her son that was phony but he was having fun. Holden offered her to come with him to get a cocktail but she said no and that it was probably not open, then she asked why he was going home early and he said he had to get a brain tumor removed and she got really sympathetic and all, then she left.
Response- I think that even though she is a grown woman who is like 40 years old he still thinks that she is attractive and he just wants to fill what seems to be a big whole in his heart. and to just be comforted by someones company.

Chapter 7
he went into Ackley's room turned on the light which at first he couldn't find. Ackley was awake he asked if he would play canasta but ackley said it was late and he asked about a million times what the all the fighting was about and Holden just ignored him, but finally Holden told him that the fight was about Ackley and how Stradlater had said bad things and Holden stuck up for him. Holden knew that Ackley's roommate was gone for the weekend (while he was in Ackley's room he still had all the blood all over) so he asked if he could sleep in his roommate bed and Ackley was like oh i don't know if i can give permission but Holden laid down and Ackley was all worried that his roommate would come in and all but he never did and he asked if he was really going to sleep there and Holden said no he would leave and Ackley wanted him to turn on the light.
All Holden kept thinking about was Jane and how Stradlater probably have her a time and all in Ed Bankly's car (which was Stradlater's coach.) he heard Stadlater come to their room and put his toilet stuff away and then turn out the light, he didn't even try to find Holden. he felt lonely so he woke Ackley again and asked him questions about joining a monastery. Ackley got mad because he kinda made fun of his religion he left the room and was going to go see Mal but he went to the room and packed and before he left he yelled at the top of his lungs "sleep tight, ya morons"(Salinger 52). then he was gone.
Response- I think that Holden made a good desicion to leave, it was only getting worse for him the longer he stayed and he just needs to start fresh and new. I really don't know where he will go from here but i hope its good!

chapter 6
this is a bad chapter, Holden and his roommate argue because stradlater is mad that Holden never does what he is asked, he didn't write what he was suppose to write about. Holden took the paper and tore it up and threw it away. Holden was almost nervous and very worried about Stradlater's date with Jane, he just drilled him with questions like where did they go? what did they do? did they go to New York? Did you leave the game early?, etc. Straddler was just getting undressed and clipping his toe nails and Holden got really angry that he wouldn't answer and finally he said how stradlater doesn't care about how Jane saves her Kings and doesn't move them when she plays chess and all of those things like that.Holden doesn't really remember what happened after that he just says how Straddler was brushing his teeth and he really wanted to hit the tooth brush and puncture his throat but instead he missed and hit him in the temple, he used his right hand which he punched windows out with the night his brother died and he broke it so he couldn't really make a good fist with it, but he knew that it hurt him and he kept saying how he probably didn't even know Jane's first name. and how he was just a big moron and other words that are not appropriate for me to say. :) also finally even though stradlater warned Holden not to keep saying things Holden did and finally Stradlater basically knocked him out and he just laid on the floor. Stradlater was almost nervous he told Holden to go wash his face and clean up and then he left and went to the can. Holden got up and looked at himself and saw blood every were on his face and on his pj's and robe, he didn't clean it off, all he thought was Ackley is probably wondering what is going on, so he went to go see him through the shower curtains, even though he hated the smell in his room.
Response- This chapter was intense i think that Holden wanted it to go a little different because he got hurt and he also lost all together. I also think that he really stood up for himself and even though he probably should have stopped talking most of it was probably true.

Chapter 5
Holden and his friend Mal Brossard, who is a wrestler at Pencey decided that they would go to Agerstown to get some hamburgers and see a movie. Holden decided to ask Ackley to come along too since he didn't go out ever. they ended up just eating a couple of hamburgers and playing a few games on the pinball machine. since he got back fairly early he decided to write the paper for Stradlater. he wrote about his brother Allie's baseball glove, because he couldn't think of a room to write about and didn't like the idea of it so he described it, how it had poems all over it written in green ink. just in case he got bored when no one was up to bat he had something to read. Allie is dead now he was 2 years younger than Holden and he died of lukiemia on July 18, 1946, the night he died Holden stayed in the garage and punched out all of the windows, his parents wanted to send him to get help that it was so bad, he even broke his hand.
Response- I wonder if Stradlater will be mad since he didn't write about what he was suppose to.
Response- I wonder if Stradlater will be mad since he didn't write about what he was suppose to.
Chapter 4
He went down to the cans/bathroom and watched Stradlater shave. they got to talking and Holden asked Stradlater who his date was and Holden found out it was this girl named Jane who Holden knew and he got really excited telling Stradkater things like how she doesn't move her Kings when she plays chess and all but he knew that Stradlater didn't care about any of that stuff but he still talked. Stradlater also asked Holden if he wanted to write his composition paper for him, it had to be about a room and it had to be really descriptive.
Response- I think that Holden has a crush on this Jane girl. but he won't go down to say hi to her he just sends his regards with Stradlater.
Response- I think that Holden has a crush on this Jane girl. but he won't go down to say hi to her he just sends his regards with Stradlater.
Chapter 3
So we now know that Holden is a good liar. he went to New York and he bought a hunting hat for only $1. he lives in Ossenburger memorial wing dorms and he is a Junior and his roommate is a senior. he also talks about how he is very illiterate but he loves to read a lot, especially his brother's books and books by Ring Lardner. in the dorms there is a shower between every 2 rooms and on the other side of his room there lives Robert Ackley and Holden doesn't care for him because he is really annoying and he has a lot of pimples and he is just plain dirty, he doesn't brush his teeth either, he just has really gross habits. he is really annnoying because you have to ask him somethings like 10 times before he really listens to you and does it. his roommate, Stradler, is really built and he always has to look good even though he has a dirty razor and stuff, but Holden says he is nice but it is a phony nice.
Response- he lives in the nicer dorms since he is a junior which would be really nice. i think that Holden reall knows how to read people and see the real them, he has that sense i guess.
Response- he lives in the nicer dorms since he is a junior which would be really nice. i think that Holden reall knows how to read people and see the real them, he has that sense i guess.
Chapter 2
He was asked by his history teacher Old Spencer to go to his house and say good-bye. He arrived Frozen to death basically. he went and when saying good-bye Old Spencer basically lectured him about how he needs to get his crap together. he read to him his test essay that was horrible and also a note he wrote for Old Spencer to read that said how he shouldn't flunk him. and he also named the other schools he had flunked out off and Holden wanted nothing more to get out of there he hated the bed and how it was "hard as a rock." he told Old Spencer that he had to go to the gym and get his equipment but we find out in the next chapter that is was just a lie and that Holden is VERY good at lying.
Response- I really wonder what Holden will do with his life? will he go to another school and flunk out again?
Response- I really wonder what Holden will do with his life? will he go to another school and flunk out again?
Chapter 1
The main character in the book The Catcher in the Rye is Holdon Caulfield, he is going to a school called Pencey. he manages the Fencing Team and he is standing on a hill high up over looking the football game, he is home early because he left all the fencing teams equipment on the subway. He starts of by talking about his brother and how he is a writer who now lives in hollywood and drives a Jaguar, but he started off poor. he is 17 and he has been to 4 different schools and he admitts that he acts like a 13 year old a lot of the time. he finally leaves the game and goes to Old Spencers house, he walks and it is really cold and he barly has anything on.
Response- I think that this book will be very good although, Holden talks A LOT and he never really gets to the point and if he does it takes forever and a year, but that is what makes this book so intresting and it also helps keep me reading on.n>
